Q Topic 1: Progress Report Memo on Final Senior Project A progress report has two primary purposes: First, the progress report lets your supervisor know what you have accomplished, what you are doing now, and what you have yet to do. It shows your supervisor that you have a clear idea of how you can competently accomplish your project goal, and it addresses any modifications that you may have made. Second, like the proposal memo, the progress report is a planning document for you, the writer. It helps you consider what you have done and what you have yet to do before your Senior Capstone Project's deadline. You will take a good close look at your overall goal, the tasks you have completed toward that goal, and you will both review the tasks remaining and create another timeline for accomplishing them. The more details you include here, the better for you. For this discussion, please post a progress report (template below) in MEMO format formally addressed to me and the class. Be as specific and detailed as you can about what you are doing and where you are going. (Writing about this in detail will actually help you as you work on your project.) Use this template for your progress report: To: <insert instructor's name> and Class FROM: <Your Name> DATE: Re: Progress Report on <Insert Option # Here> , <Insert Project Title Here> Your first paragraph should have no heading. This paragraph is, by the nature of its location, introductory. This paragraph will include a brief summary of the project, a sentence that tells your addresses what you want them to do, and a sentence that explains to your readers what you are including in this memo. This sample memo, for example, shows you how to design your memo, how to organize the parts of your memo, and what content to include in those parts. The Re: line of the memo header should look like this: Re: Progress Report on Project <Project Title> Your title is NOT your topic; your project title should be precise and informative. So a subject line like “Progress Report on Computer Variation” is not a good one because it does not give your reader enough information. But a subject such as the following is informative: “Progress Report on Feasibility Study for Good Souls Church Sound System Purchase” Goal of Project: Write a single sentence here that describes your project’s goal and audience. For example, “This project is a diversity training plan for the Smithsonian Institution” or “The main goal of this project is to develop a diversity training plan for the Smithsonian Institution.” Work Completed: Make an ordered list (using numbers, not bullets) of the major tasks that you have completed (e.g., research proposal, bibliography, secondary source reading/note-taking, Interviews, data analysis, etc.) Work in Progress: Make an ordered list (using numbers, not bullets) of the major tasks you are in the process of working on now. (e.g., secondary source reading/note-taking, Interviews, data analysis, etc.) Work to be Completed (on timeline): Make an ordered list (using numbers, not bullets) of the major tasks you are going to complete in the next few weeks on a TIMELINE (e.g., secondary source reading/note-taking, interviews, data analysis, drafting, presentation, final project, etc.) Be sure that you include all of the deliverables for your assignment. Modifications: Write a brief paragraph here about how your project has been changed or modified since you wrote your research proposal. You may have modified your audience or your scope, for example. Maybe your audience analysis has lead you to modify something about your approach. If there are no changes, simply write that. Please post your progress report memo by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, changing the title of your post to include your name and your project's topic. Then, respond to the initial posts ofat least two other students by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday. Continue your conversations through the end of the course week.
